What is the purpose and importance of sex? Who can have sex? And what types of sex practices are approved by God?
God made sex, and like everything else he made, it is GOOD! God created sex for the reproduction of godly offspring, for enjoyment and for bonding with your spouse… 1 Corinthians 7 says that sex within marriage keeps us from being tempted by Satan to go outside the marriage to fulfill our sexual urges, due to a lack of self control… 1 Corinthians 7 also tells us to fulfill our marital vows to our spouse and to not deprive each other of sex. We should not “punish” our spouse by refusing to give them sex. (You hear that ladies! … So don’t make your husband sleep on the couch because you’re mad at him. If he has no self-control, he might not be there when you wake up the next morning.) Sex keeps your marriage strong and unified.
BUT, sex outside of marriage is a SIN, period, because God always does things within COVENANT. So that means that homosexuality, sodomy, orgies, prostitution, adultery, pornography, anal, oral or vaginal sex, mutual masturbation, masturbating on one’s self, etc… anything you do outside of marriage, it all falls under the category of fornication, lust, a lack of self control, perversion and sexual immorality. The Bible warns us that there should not be even a hint of this among the Lord’s people. For we are to be holy as God is holy. Those who practice such a lifestyle shall not inherit the kingdom of God…. And for anyone who has been practicing any of these things outside of marriage, they should repent and receive the forgiveness for their sins through Jesus Christ.
However, in the context of marriage (between one man and one female), sex is legal and the marriage bed is undefiled!
Marriage is honorable above all, and the marriage bed kept undefiled, but God will judge sexually immoral people and adulterers. -Hebrews 13:4
(Undefiled does not mean “No Holds Barred.” In other words, it does not mean “anything goes.” Undefiled actually means holy; pure; clean; unspotted; faultless; not made dirty. Without question, vaginal sex is honorable. But what about oral? What about anal?)
I looked up the definition of sodomy.
– definition of sodomy by the Free Online Dictionary … www.thefreedictionary.com/
sodomy : Any of various forms of sexual intercourse held to be unnatural or abnormal, especially anal intercourse or bestiality
– definition of sodomy by the Merriam-Webster Online www.merriam-webster.com/
sodomy: anal or oral copulation with a member of the same or opposite sex;
1 Timothy 1:9-10 NKJV
knowing this: that the law is not made for a righteous person, but for the lawless and insubordinate, for the ungodly and for sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, for fornicators, for [sodomites], for kidnappers, for liars, for perjurers, and if there is any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine,
1 Corinthians 6:9-10 NKJV
Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor [sodomites], nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.
So we see from the definitions that sodomy is defined as any form of sex that is unnatural or abnormal–such as anal, oral or bestiality. We also see from Scripture that sodomy is condemned; it is considered unrighteous and contrary to sound doctrine.
So I guess that makes it clear. Vaginal sex is the only normal, natural and accepted sex in marriage. Anything outside of that is defiled! Sex is a holy and blessed thing. And whatever the couple decides to do in the bed, they must realize that the Holy Spirit is the third person in the bed with them, so they shouldn’t do anything that they believe God wouldn’t approve of. 🙂
Hope this clarifies things!
