The Heart

The heart is the organ that pumps blood into all other areas of the body. Spiritually, the heart is symbolic for our mindset, our emotions, our desires and our will, which are all components of one’s soul. “Keep thy heart [soul] with all diligence; for out of it, flows the issues of life.” (Proverbs 4:23)

Just as a body part begins to die when there is a clog in the arteries and no flow of blood gets through to that area, so does those spiritual areas in our life begin to die when we are clogged up with sin and not allowing the Spirit of God to flow in those areas.

The heart is filled with blood. Just as the soul should be filled with the Holy Spirit. The heart represents the soul of man. The blood is symbolic of the Spirit of God, which is given by Christ; for the physical blood and the spiritual Christ are both the sources, or donors of life.

A good man out of the good treasure of his heart [soul] bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart [soul] bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart [soul] his mouth speaketh. (Luke 6:45)

In the Beginning, God created man from the dirt of the ground and blew into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul. Our essence, or core being of what we were created to be, is a soul. (Genesis 2:7) We were not created by God to have a bad heart [soul]. In fact, we were created to be in the image and likeness of God, to be holy as he is holy. When God made the first 2 humans, Adam and Eve, they were both created AND born with good hearts [souls]. It is only because they were deceived by Satan in the Garden of Eden, that they disobeyed God and ate of the tree of the knowledge of Good and Evil, thus causing their hearts [souls] to become tainted with sin.

Henceforth, they became no longer good, but evil at heart [soul]. Because of their sin, God told them that they shall surely die. Thus, sin became the clog in their spiritual artery, and now their hearts [souls] are no longer pumping life, but death. And death because of sin. Because all are the seed of Adam, we are all made sinners because of Adam, and we have all inherited the spiritual condition of our forefather. This condition would carry out from generation to generation, with no cure.

The LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart [soul] was only evil continually. (Genesis 6:5)

Jesus said, “Don’t you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body? But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart [soul], and these make a man ‘unclean.’ For out of the heart [soul] come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. (Matthew 15:17-19)

It is these unclean things [sin] that keeps our hearts [souls] from pumping life. We must clean our hearts [souls] by washing and sanctifying them. We wash the sin out of our hearts [souls] through the Word of God.

How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word. With my whole heart [soul] I have sought You; Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments! Your word I have hidden in my heart [soul], That I might not sin against You. (Psalm 119:9-11)

Now you are clean through the word which I have spoken to you. (John 15:3)

… That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, (Ephesians 5:26)

Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. (John 17:17)

The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life. (John 6:63)

The word of God, which is spirit and life, begins to cleanse our hearts [souls] and unclog our spiritual arteries, so that the Holy Spirit can come in and give us life again. Once we repent or turn away from our sins, Jesus forgives us of our sins and cleanses us of unrighteousness. He takes out our stony heart of flesh and gives us a heart of flesh.

So now:
Instead of being clogged with hate, we are flowing in love.
Instead of being clogged with depression, we are flowing in joy.
Instead of being clogged with distress, we are flowing in peace.
Instead of being clogged with anxiety, we are flowing in patience.
Instead of being clogged with cruelty, we are flowing in kindness.
Instead of being clogged with wickedness, we are flowing in goodness.
Instead of being clogged with treachery, we are flowing in faithfulness.
Instead of being clogged with roughness, we are flowing in gentleness.
Instead of being clogged with disorder, we are flowing in self-control.
Instead of being clogged with lying, we are flowing with truth.
Instead of being clogged with division, we are flowing with unity.
Instead of being clogged with perversion, we are flowing with holiness.
Instead of being clogged with pride, we are flowing with humility.
Instead of being clogged with fear, we are flowing with boldness.
Instead of being clogged with rebellion, we are flowing with obedience.
Instead of being clogged with greed, we are flowing with contentment.
Instead of being clogged with death, we are flowing with life.

And once we are made whole again, we can turn back and strengthen the brethren. I first must become, what I am called to reproduce. Welcome to the process. 🙂
