“I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.” – (Apostle Paul, Galatians 5:16-17, NKJV)
Check out the keyword: fulfill.
Apostle Paul didn’t say that if you walk in the Spirit, you will not FEEL [perceive,
sense, detect, discern, notice, be aware of, be conscious of] the lust of the flesh. Instead, he said if you walk in the Spirit, you will not FULFILL the lust of the flesh.
Trust me, as long as you are living in the flesh, you are going to FEEL like giving in to all sorts of sinful and ungodly desires, emotions, urges, thoughts, and temptations. Come on, somebody! You’re going to FEEL like rebelling against your parents, going to the club, turning up, getting high on drugs, stealing, hating people, hosting unforgiveness in your heart, watching porn, masturbating, having pre-marital sex (with the opposite sex, same sex, or in some cases, both), etc. The sinful nature that’s in you want to do these things!
But, if you walk in the Spirit, you will not FULFILL [manifest, carry out, succumb to, accomplish, perform, execute, bring to completion or reality, achieve, or satisfy] those things that you FEEL in the flesh.
Just like you live IN this world, but you don’t live ACCORDING to the system of this world, so is it true that you live IN the flesh, but you do not live ACCORDING to the flesh. You live according to the Spirit. The indwelling Holy Spirit helps you to say no to sinful, ungodly desires. The Spirit gives you the desire to want to do what is right–not only the desire to do what is right, but the divine power to actually carry it out.
