I got saved in 08. In the summer of 09, I went on a week long Daniel fast and I began to ask God, “Who am I? What is my purpose in life? Why am I here? What do you want me to do?” God revealed to me that he has set out a blueprint for our human lives. We all have an essence, an identity, a calling, a purpose, a gift/talent/ministry to fulfill that purpose, and a destiny.
Our essence: or core being is a spirit. God is Spirit (John 4:24) and man is created in the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1:26-27). So if God is Spirit, we are spirits. Our spirits carry a soul. “Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life (God breathed spirit into our dirt bodies), and the man became a living soul (Genesis 2:7). Our spirit man is what gives us life–it’s what helps us breathe and function. Our soul, or soulish realm (symbolic of our heart) contains our emotions, will, desires, perception, intellect, reasoning and memory. Our soul is basically our mind and it is the thing that brings personality to our spirit man. OUR ESSENCE IS WHAT WE ARE.
Our identity is: sons and daughters of the living God. Heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ (Romans 8:14-17). We are little gods on the earth (John 10:34-36). We are followers or disciples of Christ, aka Christians. We are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession…” (1 Peter 2:9). We are the salt and light of the world (Matthew 5:13-16). OUR IDENTITY IS WHO WE ARE IN GOD.
Our calling is: To be conformed to the image and likeness of God in Christ Jesus (Genesis 1:26-27). We are called “not to be impure, but to be holy as God is holy” (1 Thessalonians 4:7). We are called to God’s own kingdom and glory (1 Thessalonians 2:12). We are called to share in God’s eternal glory in Christ Jesus our Lord (2 Thessalonians 2:14, 1 Peter 5:10). We are called by God into fellowship with His Son Jesus Christ (The Living Word). OUR CALLING IS TO HAVE A RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD THROUGH CHRIST, SO WE CAN BE LIKE GOD IN FUNCTION AND THINKING.
Our purpose is: to be fruitful and multiply (Genesis 1:28). Not only be fruitful and multiply to have godly offspring (Malachi 2:15), but to spread the image of God on the earth, mainly the light of Christ. Our purpose is to be God’s handiwork, created in Jesus to do good works, which we were prepared in advance to do (Ephesians 2:10). Our purpose is to let our lights shine so that others may see our good deeds and glorify our Father who is in Heaven (Matthew 5:16). Our purpose is to be servants of Christ and minister to the unbelievers. To be fishers of men (Mark 1:17). To be sent out so we can spread the Great Commission and make disciples of all nations, teaching others everything that Jesus taught us (Matthew 28:19). We are purposed to be witnesses in all the earth of the gospel of Jesus Christ (Acts 1:8). We are all purposed to evangelize [though not everyone is called to the 5-fold mantle of an evangelist.] OUR PURPOSE IS TO BE USED BY GOD TO SAVE SOULS.
We can have several destinies while on earth. Our destiny depends on our: INDIVIDUAL ASSIGNMENTS. EVERYONE HAS DIFFERENT DESTINIES ON EARTH. But our ultimate destiny will be eternal life or eternal damnation, and that depends on how we live in the body and what we believe. Acts 13:48 When the Gentiles heard this, they began rejoicing and glorifying the word of the Lord; and as many as had been appointed to eternal life believed.
And in order to fulfill our purpose, we all need a gift/talent or ministry. These gifts/talents and ministries are things that God has naturally placed inside of us in advance to do, and the only reason we have these gifts/talents is to Give God glory with them. That’s why we have a heart to do certain things and are good at them (singing, dancing, art, architecture, motivational speaking, sports, cooking, charity/giving, homeless shelter/foster care/nursing home ministries, etc.) If you know what one of your gifts are for sure, that’s awesome, but know that it’s possible that God can have more than one ministry for your life.
Matthew 25:15 “To one he gave five talents, to another, two, and to another, one, each according to his own ability; and he went on his journey.
But Without the anointing and gospel of Christ in mind behind it, to give life to the people you minister to, your gift is dead.
1 Peter 4:11 If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God gives: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
2 Timothy 4:5-15 But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.
“Never confuse purpose with destiny. Purpose is fufilling God’s will and destiny cause you to walk in the purpose of God’s will because you have surrendered to God’s purpose.”
Our purpose or will should be to win souls. [For God wishes [wills] for no one to perish but for everyone to repent.] He uses people to save people. He uses US [saved people] to fulfill his purpose or will…. Our destiny is the thing that puts us in line to fulfill God’s purpose. Without purpose [cause/reason], there is no destiny [fulfillment/outcome]. It is only after we [submit/surrender] to God’s purpose [saving souls], and pray for instruction on how to do that, that His destiny [assignment] for our individual lives becomes clear to us.
This reminds me of Acts 5. The Apostles were being persecuted by MEN for their faith and for doing what they know GOD has called or purposed them to do. Man was telling them that maybe they should not be preaching about Christ. But in vs 29, “Peter and the other apostles replied: “We must obey GOD rather than human beings!…”
Acts 5:38-39 Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. 39 But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God.”
Be sure that you Know what God has called you to do in regards to ministry and your purpose. Not what you think or feel or want, but what God said. Receive a confirmation from him, so that when the enemy comes (personally or through other people), saying, “Did God really say?”… you will know without a shadow of a doubt that, “YES. GOD did say.” And with such confirmation from God, and your obedience to His plan for your life, no one will be able to stop you, even if they try to put up detours, put up road blocks or distractions. They would only be able to see the blessings and fruit that you are bearing, as well as God’s glory shining in your life.
You were not a mistake and you are not here by coincidence. God made you. And he has a blueprint for your life.
