Peace I Leave With You

John 14:27 NKJV

Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

John 15:11 NKJV

“These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.

Jesus doesn’t give us the type of carnal peace, joy or comfort that we would normally experience in the world. The world’s peace, joy and comfort comes from when we get paid on Friday, when we get a new job with better benefits, when we have sex, do drugs, get buzzed on alcohol, etc… But as soon as our money dries up, sex looses its interest, when we come off our high, sober up from the booze, or when the work load from our new job gets overwhelming, we lose that joy, peace and comfort.

But Jesus gives us a spiritual peace, spiritual joy and spiritual comfort that can not be taken away… He never said to his disciples that they would never experience pain, sorrow, hardship, turmoil, persecution or oppression in this world. He actually promised that we would face all these things. So who ever said life gets easier when you become a Christian and all your problems go away, they lied.

Jesus told us that in this world we will face many troubles and many tribulations, but to take comfort in the fact that He has overcome the world, and through our faith in him, we shall overcome as well. As believers, our joy comes from the cross–From the fact that our deadly sins are forgiven of us and washed away by the blood of the lamb, and from the fact that we have the gift of eternal life through the baptism of the Holy Spirit, whom we have been sealed with until the day of redemption… As believers, we are able to find joy in the fact that our present sufferings are not worthy to be compared to the glory that shall be revealed in us on the Day Our Savior Returns.
