Jesus said “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must DENY himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me.” Luke 9:23
And Paul said we must learn to CAST DOWN imaginations, and every high thing that exalt itself against the knowledge of God, and bring into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5
If we want to come out of sin, and in this case, homosexuality, we have to learn to DENY ourselves and our [selfish and fleshly] desires, urges and feelings. We have to CAST DOWN the same sex attractions, thoughts, imaginations and lusts we may have. We have to suppress these [sinfully] natural tendencies we have in order to live a holy life and please God.
Some people will tell us that in turning away from our homosexual tendencies, we are being fake, putting on a facade, a masquerade, denying who we really are, or that we are lying to ourselves. But it is the greatest trick of the enemy to believe that we are rejecting who we are in order to be someone we’re not. The devil doesn’t want us to be free from homosexuality so he is trying to keep us in bondage to a LIE!
We are not denying who we are and we are not lying to ourselves…. In actuality, who we thought we were, is not who we really are.
Proverbs 23:7 says “as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.”
Because homosexuality is so NATURAL to us and because same same attraction is so prevalent IN OUR MINDS [in our hearts], a lot of us accept ourselves as homosexuals. Because we can’t seem to change ourselves, a lot of us believe that we were born gay. And I won’t completely disagree with that!
Psalm 51:5 says “Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me.”
Psalm 58:3 says “Even from birth the wicked go astray; from the womb they are wayward and speak lies.”
The Bible says we were born in sin and iniquity. We come out the womb speaking lies. We come out of the womb with a carnal mindset. We come out the womb with unnatural, immoral and inordinate affections and desires. There is nothing good in our sinful nature.
Galatians 5:19-21 even says, “Now the works [fruit or manifestations] of the flesh [or sinful nature] are evident [and obvious], which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness [which are obscene and indecent sexual desires], idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Ephesians 2:3 says, “All of us once lived among these people, and followed the desires of our corrupt nature. We did what our corrupt desires and thoughts wanted us to do. So, because of our nature, we deserved God’s anger just like everyone else.”
Romans 8:5-13 reads, “Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God. You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you. Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.”
The Bible makes it clear that there are two lifestyles we can choose to live from. We can choose to live a lifestyle in the flesh which leads to death, or we can live a lifestyle in the Spirit which leads to life.
Just because we were born in a sin nature that has a proclivity or predisposition to homosexual desires, doesn’t mean that we have to subject ourselves to it — especially if we know this is not the will of God for our lives and we will not inherit the Kingdom of God if we do so.
You may think you were born homosexual, but you can be born again.
Jesus said in John 3:3, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are BORN AGAIN.”
1 John 5:1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is BORN OF GOD, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well.
1 John 3:9 No one who is BORN OF GOD will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God.
1 John 5:4 “for everyone BORN OF GOD overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.
You may get homosexual thoughts a lot, but you can learn to renew your mind.
Romans 12:2 says, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by theRENEWING OF YOUR MIND. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is —his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
Ephesians 4:21-24 says, “Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit RENEW YOUR THOUGHTS and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.”
In the Beginning, God created us to be in his own image and likeness; and God is blessed and holy. But during the process of God teaching the first man, Adam, and his wife, Eve, about how to become like Him, Satan the devil came into the picture and brought deception. By listening to and giving into the temptation of Satan, Adam and Eve birthed disobedience, or sin into the world. And through Adam, sin has passed down to all men, because we have all come from Adam. Now instead of being holy and righteous, we have all become defiled and wicked. Instead of having a nature in the likeness of God, we have inherited a fallen nature.
But God has provided us a way to reverse the curse! By being born again and by renewing our minds, we can finally become who God has CREATED us to be, and not what sin has BIRTHED us to be.
Being born again is simple. Just believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God and that he died on the cross for your sins. Believe that God has raised him up from the dead on the third day. Repent from your sins, and ask God for forgiveness. Accept Jesus into your heart to be your Lord and Savior. Receive the free gift of the Holy Ghost, who will help teach you the truth and help you to live a life of obedience that is pleasing to the Father.
Once you are born again, you are no longer a homosexual. And there is no such thing as a gay or homosexual Christian. Your identity has completely changed.
1 Corinthians 6:9-11 say, “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.
1 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
Renewing your mind is a bit more challenging though. You have to renew your mind daily to flush out all of the carnal things that were stored up in your head your whole life. You have to renew your mind daily by reading the Word of God and putting your faith in what God has to say about you.
God’s ways are higher than your ways and his thoughts are higher than your thoughts. He doesn’t see you the same way that you see yourself. So, part of renewing your mind is seeing yourself through God’s eyes and not through your own. God doesn’t see us as homosexuals. He sees us as his beloved sons and daughters. Being a homosexual isn’t our identity. It’s our condition. And we should never get our struggle mixed up with who we are. Remember, it’s not about what you feel, it’s about what you know!
God told Cain in Genesis 4:7, “If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it. ”
Homosexual thoughts may still be knocking on the door of our minds from time to time. Sin never sleeps and neither does temptation. It will always desire to have us. And sometimes, denying the temptation to give in will get annoying, frustrating and overwhelming, but we must learn how to rule over our thoughts and not let them rule us. We have to learn how to master our emotions and not let them master us. We have to learn how to put our urges under subjection and not let them bring us under subjection.
Galatians 5:24 “Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.”
Because we are born again, we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. We are more than conquerors in him who loves us.
I pray you received this with an open heart and that the truth of God’s word will set you free.
I love you all! And you are not alone in the battle. I’m in this with you! 😉
Your brother in Christ,
