Today, in our modern language, the term ‘sodomy’ has a broad definition, referring to any form of non-penile/vaginal sexual act, namely anal and oral sex, but commonly also refers to bestiality–sex with animals. The legal use of the term sodomy is defined as forcible anal rape of a man by another man. In many countries, this act of ‘sodomy’ between two men, even if consensual, is illegal and punishable by imprisonment.

Historically speaking, though, the term ‘sodomy’ came from an account found in the Bible and refers to “the sins of Sodom.” But what exactly were the sins of Sodom? From the account given to us in Genesis 19, it was said that all of the men from the city of Sodom, both old and young, wanted to have [non-consensual] sexual relations with these two men (angels in disguise) who were guests in the home of Lot. The men of Sodom tried to force their way into the house of Lot in order to gang bang, or have forcible anal sex with these two men. So I believe that by context clues, it is safe to say that the “sins of Sodom” (or sodomy) can refer to any combination of homosexual activity, either rape or anal sex.

The Bible also defines ‘sodomites’ as men who practice sacred male cult prostitution (cross dressing and homosexual orgies) as a form of worship to their pagan gods in order to promote fertility. This practice is idolatrous and abominable to God and sodomites were to be removed from the Land of Israel (1 Kings 14:24, 1 Kings 22:46, 2 Kings 23:7). The Old Testament isn’t the only part of the Bible that mentions sodomites, though. In the New Testament, Romans 1:26-28, 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, and 1 Timothy 1:8-10 condemns the practice of sodomy, saying that it is unnatural, indecent, unfitting, improper, wrong, profane and contrary to sound doctrine.

The Bible clearly defines sodomy–in the case of consensual, homosexual anal sex–as a sin, as well as in the sense of rape and bestiality (Leviticus 18:22-23, Leviticus 20:13, 15).

While the Bible does not specifically condemn the act of anal sex when it is within marriage between a husband and wife, (and many married couples enjoy this type of sex) medically speaking, anal sex is neither healthy nor safe. Anal sex highly increases the risk of:

1) TISSUE DAMAGE (Because the anus lacks the natural lubrication that the vagina has, penetration and constant friction can rip and tear the tissue in the anus during intercourse. If bleeding occurs after anal sex, it could lead to a hemorrhoid–where your anal tissue starts to protrude from the anus. Anal sex can also cause the anal sphincter–which holds your feces from leaking–to weaken, which will then make it difficult for you to be able to hold your bowels.),

2) INFECTION (Due to the backing up of fecal matter in the lower intestines, it can lead to constipation and anal cancer.), and

3) the TRANSMISSION of STDs (With torn tissue inside the anus, bacteria and viruses can enter the bloodstream.).

I personally believe that anal sex has pagan and demonic origins, has too many health risks, and that it perverts God’s original purpose and intent for the anus, no matter whether experienced by a gay couple or a straight, married couple. I believe God’s original purpose for sex was penile/vaginal and for reproduction, and although penile/anal sex may produce pleasure for many, it doesn’t produce life. What do you all think?
