Davon “Transparent” Johnson is a son of God, husband to Deborah ‘HeartofWorship’ Johnson and minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He is also an alumnus of Florida International University with a B.S. in Mass Communication and an area of concentration in Religious Studies. He is a mentor, public speaker, spoken word poet, blogger, aspiring author and president of Transparent For Christ Movement.
Davon was born on March 24, 1990 in Miami, Florida, but had his upbringings in Atlanta, Georgia. He is of African American descent and is the product of a single parent–his mother’s only child.
Davon was brought up in the Christian faith and was raised in the Church of Atlanta Lighthouse. When he was an infant he was chosen to play the role of baby Jesus in the manger. When he grew a little older, he was baptized and placed in Sunday school, where he learned the children’s Bible stories and sang the infamous “Jesus Loves Me” song. He even played the flute in chorus. He was taught how to say his morning and night prayers and how to pray with thanksgiving over his food. When he was 12, he recited the Prayer For Salvation to invite the Lord Jesus into his life. He made sure he memorized the Lord’s Prayer, Psalm 23 and especially John 3:16. Davon had been trained up in the ways in which he should go. But at the age of 13, he moved back to South Florida, where he strayed away from the faith.
During this time of his life, Davon became a skeptic. Although he had Christian upbringings, he was later exposed to the doctrine of The Moorish Science Temple of America, Inc., an Islamic movement founded by Prophet Noble Dre Ali. He was also introduced to the doctrine of The Jehovah’s Witnesses, a religion founded by Charles Taze Russell. Thus, he grew up devoted to three different religions–praying to Jesus, Jehovah and Allah faithfully. He attended Christian churches and the Kingdom Hall often. He also had to read the Holy Bible, The New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures alongside the WatchTower and Awake! Magazines, and a book on Moorish Literature, which was based off of the Koran.
However, in school, Davon noticed that there were kids who practiced other religions, and even those who had no religious affiliation at all. Davon began to grow confused. With so many world religions, who’s to say that Christianity was the only right way? Davon began to question his core faith, his belief in the after-life and the authenticity of God and the Bible. Religious Studies became his area of concentration in college, and he took classes to learn more about other religions such as: Zoroastrianism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Native American religions, Wicca, Judaism, Islam, Taoism, Christian Science, Scientology and Mormonism. He even learned more about the different sects of Christianity, namely Catholicism and the hundreds of denominations within Protestantism. Learning about all the world religions–and seeing so many similarities, yet at the same time so many contradictions–made him even more confused. Davon reached a place in his life where he didn’t want to subscribe to any religion in particular, until he knew for sure which one–if any of them–contained the absolute truth. So one day he made a simple prayer into the universe and said, “God–If there is a one, true God–reveal yourself to me.”
Fast Forward: On Sunday, December 14, 2008, Davon visited a friend’s church, where the full gospel of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ was presented to and understood by him, and he felt a conviction from the LORD to “choose ye this very day whom ye shall serve.” Caught off guard and not completely ready to leave his life of sin — yet understanding that tomorrow is not promised to anyone — Davon made the decision to repent from his sins, surrender his life to God and get water baptized in the name of Jesus. That following Wednesday night, Davon visited his friend’s church again, where he was unexpectedly fire-baptized and filled with the gift of the Holy Ghost during an alter call. He experienced a true, born-again conversion. His spiritual eyes were then opened and this became the first day to the beginning of his new life. He soon dropped affiliation with all other religions, organizations, hobbies and friends that weren’t helping him reach his destiny in God.
After faithfully making steps towards God through prayer, fasting and thoroughly studying the Bible, Davon began to question his place in ministry and his true purpose in life. God showed him through a vision on July 14, 2009 that he had a prophetic call over his life, and that he was ordained to take a stand against sexual immorality and to minister a revival of purity and holiness before the Lord.
As the president of Transparent For Christ Movement, Davon’s mission is to witness freedom to those who struggle with sexual addiction (pornography, voyeurism, masturbation, fornication, sodomy, stripping, prostitution, adultery, ‘down low’ affairs, zoophilia), sexual and gender identity confusion (homosexuality, bisexuality, lesbianism, transgenderism, transsexuality), and sexual brokenness (the overwhelming mental and emotional feelings of guilt, shame, regret, remorse, fear, anger, unforgiveness, distrust, dishonor, disgrace, self-condemnation, self-hate, depression, hopelessness and suicide, which is commonly associated with sex-related cases such as SSA, molestation, incest, pedophilia, rape, abortion, and/or the diagnosis of an STI)–many of which Davon himself has had personal experiences with.
Satan had a plan to abort Davon’s calling earlier on in life, as he has been exposed to sexual immorality even at a young age. Having been born out of wedlock, a victim of several instances of child sexual abuse, molested by a family relative at age 13, and seduced by other young men and women throughout his adolescence — either at school, online or in the comfort of my own home — Davon was ultimately lured into a lustful and perverted lifestyle full of pornography, masturbation, and secret homosexual affairs. And just as broken people break people, he began to do to others what had been done to him.
Davon became clouded with guilt, shame and self-condemnation because of his sexual immoral lifestyle. Out of fear of losing his reputation, being the victim of ridicule, and being rejected by family and friends, he kept it all “in the closet” and planned on taking his secret life “to the grave” with him. However, after years of living life on the down low, he honestly thought that he was keeping the secret, but in actuality, the secret was keeping him. Living in heavy paranoia, Davon eventually realized that hiding from, or ignoring a problem will not make it go away. In order to prosper in life, he had to be willing to confront his issues. He had to learn through life experiences that secrets will hold you in bondage, but the truth will set you free.
Now, finally conquering the demons that have kept him silent for so many years, Davon is able to “speak out” (Proverbs 28:13), be a “child of light” (Ephesians 5:8), a “walking epistle” known and read by everyone (2 Corinthians 3:1-3) and a “living testimony” (Revelation 12:11) of one who has overcome the world and its temptations. God’s purpose overrode his attempt to keep quiet about his past. Then one day God said to him, “In the world, you lived on the down low. But in Christ, you shall be known as Transparent.” The LORD has laid a heavy burden on Davon’s heart to “come out of the closet” and minister hope to others who are still in bondage — by sharing his testimony with them on how he got saved and set free from his sexual addictions. Many are now getting saved and rededicating their lives back to Christ on account of his testimony. Because he has gone back to that familiar place, just to reach out to people who are in the same shoes he once wore, God has called Davon the Moses of today, stating to him that, “I’ve brought you out of Egypt, just to send you back to Egypt and bring my people out (Acts 7:34).”
Davon uses social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and WordPress to fellowship with, minister to, and disciple others through his revelatory blogs, biblical statuses, testimonial videos and Christ-centered photography. He has led Bible studies on his college campus, preached and served in his local community, and has shared his testimony in books, on live radio stations, talk shows, teleconferences, several different churches, colleges, Christian and secular events, and at a homeless shelter in downtown Atlanta. Davon is currently being discipled at One Body in Christ in Love Ministries, a ministry located in the heart of Miami Gardens, FL, under the leadership of Apostle Darryl K. Auberry.
Davon is learning how to become the kingdom of God, so that he may go out into the world and build the kingdom of God through the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.
